Former coach Stuart Baxter could find himself moving on to become the highest-earning coach ever in Tanzanian football in his next coaching job.
Baxter – who was most recently with Kaizer Chiefs before being sacked in April – is in talks with Tanzania heavyweights Simba SC with a view of taking over as their head coach next season after the sacking of Spaniard Pablo Franco Martin.
Simba will finish second to Young Africans in the Liga Kuu Bara but being an association ranked in the top 12 on the continent they will be able to enter two clubs in the Champions League.
Baxter’s options in the PSL have shrunk which is why he is considering moving to the East African heavyweights who enjoy a following which could be argued to be bigger than that of his previous employers Chiefs and are serial winners.
Simba have been champions in the last four years and have only failed this year.
With the club having paid Patrick Aussems 45 million Tanzanian shillings (approximately R300 000) during his time as head coach four years ago, Baxter will also be thrown into the same bracket considering his experience.
Aussems is a Belgian gaffer who also had a stint with Black Leopards.
Barbara Gonzalez, the CEO of Simba has already met Baxter and his representative in Johannesburg in seeking to iron out a deal.
It is believed Simba will at best stretch their offer to about 60 million Tanzanian shillings (approximately R400 000) which they feel could be enough to lure Baxter.
In Dar es Salaam, the Briton will enjoy the benefit of seaside accommodation but will have to win the league and take the club past the group stages of the Champions League.
Simba is the best-paying club in Tanzania.
