A Cape Town City and Bafana Bafana international has revealed his dream of donning the famous black and gold colours of Kaizer Chiefs in the future.

The highly-rated Bafana left-back is heading into his third and final season with CT City after joining the club on a three-year deal in 2020 from TS Galaxy.

However, the Siya crew has been led to believe that the Citizens have triggered the two-year extension in Terrence Mashego’s contract.

As previously reported by the Siya crew, Kaizer Chiefs are understood to have made a bid for the defender.

While the Citizens have no plans to let go of one of their best players anytime soon, Mashego admitted he is keen to test his skills at a club he grew up supporting, with sources revealing that the Amakhosi management share a mutual affection with the player.

“As a footballer, you want to see yourself grow and challenge yourself on different levels.

It would be an outstanding achievement for me to play for a much bigger club to test myself on a different level,” Mashego told the Siya crew.

“As I was growing up, I fell in love with Kaizer Chiefs because of my dad as he is a big fan of the club. So, I used to go to the stadium with him, supporting Chiefs.

“I started developing a love for the club and told myself that I would love to play for this team in the future because my dad is a big Chiefs fan; even today, he still supports the club,” added Mashego, who is eager to make his father proud by turning out for Chiefs someday.

The 26-year-old is Bafana coach Hugo Broos’ first choice left-back and was dearly missed through injury as SA lost 2-1 against Morocco in the opening match of the 2023 Afcon qualifiers last Thursday in Rabat.

“As much as there is that team you support, once you reach a particular stage, like now, it is about where you get the opportunity to play.

Whether it is a good one or not, will I play or not, grow and all that. I want to leave a legacy,” concluded Mashego, who scored against Amakhosi when CT City beat the Naturena-based side 2-1 in the league during the last campaign.
