According to the Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) spokesman, Prem Balram, the couple, aged 19 and 16, were walking along Garland Street when they were confronted by one man armed with a knife.

“The suspect demanded valuables, but the teenagers resisted. The robber attempted to stab the pregnant woman, but her boyfriend intervened and grabbed the blade of the knife.

“The man retrieved his own butterfly knife and stabbed the suspect in the chest. The perpetrator thereafter fled into a bush.”

“This version of events was provided to members of RUSA by the couple,” he said.

He said reaction officers attending to the scene entered the bush in search of the suspect and located him lying in the overgrown vegetation.

“He sustained a stab wound to his chest. The man was in a critical condition and succumbed to his injuries before receiving medical treatment. RUSA paramedics treated the male victim for a laceration to his right hand,” he said.

KZN cops spokesman, Colonel Robert Netshiunda said police in Verulam have arrested a 19-year-old man for murder following an incident in which an unknown man believed to be in his thirties was allegedly fatally stabbed on Tuesday at Temple Valley.

“Reports indicate that a couple was at Temple Valley when they were accosted by an armed suspect who attempted to rob them.”

“The suspect reportedly withdrew his knife and stabbed the victim, whose body was found in the bushes.”
