AmaZulu head coach Romain Folz has insisted his side were the better team and deserved to reach the MTN8 final after eliminating Kaizer Chiefs.

The Frenchman saw his side pick up a goalless draw at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Sunday, which was enough for them qualify for the final on away goals.

Folz was pleased with his side’s achievement, but insisted they should’ve put the game to bed in the first half already.

“I think the game, we approached [it] very well,” he told SuperSport TV.

“I don’t think anyone would’ve had anything to say if it’s 2-0 at half-time, with the chances that we’ve had.

“I’m very happy for the boys and I’m very happy for the fans as well. They believed in us and the one thing we didn’t want is to let them down.”

“So we gave them our very best, as I promised before the game – I promised the fans that we’ll go into the finals, we are so we are happy.

“I still think it’s a game we could’ve won. So on the coaching side, yes, we’re we qualified, I’m very happy but it’s a game we should’ve put to bed at half-time.

“I also understand that our physical level very often drops in the middle of the second half.

“So in that regard the [World Cup] break coming is going to be good for us because we will try to rebuild a little bit our physical engine in order to do both halves like we did the first one today.

“But honestly, I think we were the best team today, we deserve to be in the finals. We’re going to prepare the two league games we have this week as best as we can.

“I allow the boys to celebrate tonight, but only tonight.”
