Kaizer Chiefs could surprisingly part ways with one of their key players who only joined the club at the beginning of the season.

Kick-off Magazine has revealed that Sifiso Hlanti’s immediate future remains uncertain as the club makes sweeping changes to the first-team squad.

Sfiso Hlanti was a signing influenced by then-head coach Gavin Hunt two years ago but had to wait to be registered as a player due to the club’s transfer ban.

The left-back was then forced to spend a season at Swallows FC and eventually joined at the start of the 2021/22 season.

However, eight games into his time at Chiefs he ruptured his Achilles tendon and hasn’t played since November.

Chiefs are keen on a clear-out of unwanted players with Leonardo Castro, Samir Nurkovic, Lazarous Kambole, Lebogang Manyama, Daniel Cardoso, Bernard Parker, Dumisani Zuma, Kearyn Baccus, Daniel Akpeyi making exits with Teddy Akumu placed on the transfer list.

It is believed that Hlanti has now similarly also been placed on the Chiefs transfer list.

Luckily for the 32-year-old he still has a running contract which has meant he is engaged for any separation to happen.

Chiefs have already initiated talks to terminate the contract but couldn’t reach an agreement.

Hlanti’s camp demanded that for the deal to be cancelled they should be paid out all that is due to the player while the club offered three months’ salary plus a portion of his signing-on fee for the second year.

For now, he has survived but Chiefs are in the market for another left-footed defender to widen their options at left-back and the left side of their central defence.

There have been considerations made for several players fitting that profile including Burkina Faso international Oula Abass Traore.

Chiefs have supported Arthur Zwane’s push to have players that he will have a bigger influence over rather than experienced players that were brought in by other coaches.

The club’s sporting director Kaizer Motaung Jnr has given Zwane all his support.
