Mike Makaab, who is the agent of Mamelodi Sundowns senior coach Manqoba Mngqithi has hit back at comments calling the tactician “a coward”.
Makaab, who regularly engages with his followers on social media, came across one user calling Mngqithi the “most coward coach in the history of SA Football”.

He then stated he would address those comments on his weekly show on Gagasi FM, where he later stuck to his word.
Makaab explained Mngqithi’s situation at the club and insisted that he still plays an important role and both side’s are happy with his contribution to the technical team and current record-run.
“First and foremost, he’s under contract at Mamelodi Sundowns,” he told iDiski Times
“Secondly, Sundowns have an option to renew his contract and we have to respect that.
“Thirdly, and most importantly, is that Manqoba is happy at the football club. And the football club is happy with Manqoba.
“People talk about him being ‘demoted’… You cannot let your ego get in the way of sensibility. Mamelodi Sundowns and the hierarchy decided that it was time to give Rulani Mokwena an opportunity to take the reigns and Rulani has taken that opportunity and performed incredibly well.
“Now imagine what it would look like as coach Rulani took the reigns and started being successful with Mamelodi Sundowns, coach Manqoba said ‘I’m out, I want a head coaching job’.
“First and foremost you undermine the good work that the head coach is doing. Secondly, you undermine your loyalty to the football club that has treated you incredibly well and you’re being successful at.
“It’s not a matter of him sitting in the shadows, he’s contributing in a different way to the success of Mamelodi Sundowns. And if there problems inside the camp, problems inside the dressing room between the three coaches, they would definitely not getting results like this.
“The results prove that there is harmony in the camp.”
Makaab further insisted that his client is not distracted by such disrespectful noise and al focus of Mngqithi and the club are on their CAF Champions League opener against Al Hilal on Saturday.
“At the moment coach Manqoba is focusing on one thing, being part of the technical staff of Mamelodi Sundowns, as a professional coach,” he added.

“And assisting in any possible way to the success of the club. Don’t forget they kick off their CAF Champions League campaign tomorrow and therefor the most important thing is focus on the next game on Al Hilal.
“So, that in a nutshell is how I’d like to answer the comments made. To call somebody a coward without the inside knowledge of the situation is reckless.”
