Former Supersport united midfielder Fagrie Lakay’s future with Egyptian side Pyramids FC looks uncertain as the club are yet to extend his contract which will expire at the end of this month.
The South African Star joined Pyramids on a two-and-half-year deal on deadline day in January 2022. The Cairo-based outfit piped Orlando Pirates and Sundowns for his signature at the time.

The former Cape Town City FC striker had a decent season with Pyramids, playing 25 games and contributing five goals and two assists.
However, his performance pales in comparison to Fiston Mayele, who joined Pyramids at the start of the season and had a standout term with 10 goals and 4 assists in 29 games.
The deal he signed is set to expire at the end of June, and the club has yet to exercise their option to extend it.
This has sparked renewed interest from Sundowns, who reportedly attempted to secure Lakay on loan in January.
The Tshwane giants, known for their strategic signings, may see this as an opportunity to bolster their attacking options with Lakay. His contract situation could make him a straightforward acquisition.
“Sundowns tried to sign him on loan in January, but they couldn’t. They are obviously monitoring the situation to see what happens,” a source told FARPost.
The coming weeks will be crucial in determining Lakay’s future. Lakay has lost his place in Bafana Bafana and will be hoping to push for a return.

Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has previously justified not calling up the Pyramids striker. He said that the striker is not good enough to be part of his team.
Lakay failed to make Bafana’s final 23-man squad that finished third at the AFCON in Ivory Coast. He has not been called up to the national team this season.
