Former Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns attacker Khama Billiat is on the brink of being red carded from one of his posh mansions in Joburg.

Daily Sun can exclusively reveal that Emerging Markets Home Loans (EMHL), the company that granted the 35-year-old a home loan, has filed papers in the Joburg High Court seeking judgment against the footballer.

In the papers, which Daily Sun have seen, EMHL said it loaned the former Mamelodi Sundowns marksman R1,079 million to purchase the house in the ritzy suburb of Kyalami, north of Joburg.

This is one of multiple properties Billiat purchased at the upmarket Summerset Village development, all of which are now in jeopardy due to unpaid bonds.

After loaning him the funds, EMHL signed an instalment sales agreement (ISA) with the footie on 12 March 2021.

EMHL said Billiat, who left Chiefs in 2023 reportedly due to mental exhaustion and pressure, breached the agreement when he defaulted on the property’s bond repayment and plunged into arrears.

“The defendant breached the ISA by failing to make due and timeous payment of the amounts due in terms of the ISA since February 2024,” EMHL stated in the papers.

The Joburg-based lender further explained that it sent a sheriff to deliver summons at Billiat’s residence on 20 March 2024.

The company said the summons stated that Billiat was at that time R106 804 in arrears.

It advised him to settle the arrears and keep his account up to date. EMHL also said the summons stated that the outstanding balance of the bond was R1,09 million.

But Billiat ignored the summons. As a result, EMHL said it cancelled the ISA.Congratulations! You have found the Mystery Article link! Click now!

“Notwithstanding demand, the defendant has failed, refused and/or neglected to effect payment of the arrear instalments to the plaintiff, and has failed to settle the full outstanding amount due to the plaintiff in terms of the ISA,” the papers read.

“As a result of the defendant failing to rectify his breach of the ISA within the timeframe provided, the plaintiff has cancelled the ISA and is entitled to the arrear amounts, all monies due to the plaintiff in terms of the ISA, and to retain all payments made by the defendant in terms of the ISA.”

EMHL said as of 31 January, the balance of Billiat’s bond account had increased to more than R1,4 million.

“Wherefore the plaintiff prays for judgment against the defendant,” read the papers.

When contacted for comment, EMHL’s representative, who only identified herself as Iris, declined to comment. “We don’t want to comment on the matter,” she said.

Attempts to solicit comments from Billiat drew a blank.
