Tebogo Mnisi, the man accused of brutally murdering Mamelodi cousins Tshiamo and Baleseng Moramaga, will remain in custody for the next two months after abandoning his bail bid.

Tebogo Mnisi (38), a suspect in the brutal killing of Tshiamo Moramaga (22) and Baleseng Moramaga (21), briefly appeared in the Mamelodi Magistrates Court in Tshwane on Thursday, 19 March 2026.

He’s facing two charges of premeditated murder, as well as the unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.

Presiding Magistrate Schultz postponed the matter to 20 May 2026 for further investigations. Mnisi kept his head down during the court proceedings.

The cousins’ aunt, Nthabiseng Buthelezi, said: “As a family, we are worried. We expected today to be judgment day. If they want to sentence him or if they want to give him bail, let it be so.”

“We are coming here from far away in Limpopo, and we don’t have money. It’s difficult not to attend court proceedings.”

She said that just as the family is about to heal, the court case opens old wounds.

“When we come to court, nothing happens because they say they’re waiting for the post-mortem results. To us, it’s clear that he shot them dead. We don’t know why they are waiting,” Nthabiseng said.

Sarah Raphadu, a team leader for the Mamelodi East Gender-Based Violence Brigade, said: “We feel very bad. We must be calm and understand the situation of the court.

“We will support this case until the end. This is also painful for the family, and they are travelling from far.”

Martha Makete, the ActionSA branch chairwoman in Mamelodi, said: “We are disappointed, and we expected something different. We want this matter to be treated with urgency.”

Martin Matseke, president of the Ekhethu Peoples Party, said: “We want to see this man go straight to jail. The families are suffering because of this matter. This man must rot in jail.”

Gauteng police spokeswoman Captain Tintswalo Sibeko said cops opened two counts of murder after the bodies of two women, aged 21 and 22, were found with gunshot wounds in Extension 17, Mamelodi East, on 26 October 2025.
