Tragically, a young woman from Koster in the North West has died after her ex-boyfriend allegedly assaulted and stabbed her several times because he couldn’t accept the end of their relationship.

The North West village of Koster is in sorrow over the tragic death of Kamogelo Eunice Boikanyo, who was allegedly assassinated on 2 February 2026 by her ex-boyfriend.

Anger and demands for more robust measures to combat gender-based violence in South Africa have been rekindled by the tragic murder of the young woman.

Initial accounts indicate that the attack resulted in more than ten stab wounds to Kamogelo. The suspect allegedly confronted her after their relationship ended, leading to the incident.

The man allegedly lost it after the breakup and acted aggressively during the altercation.

According to those in the know, Kamogelo had already taken precautions to ensure her safety. Before the incident, she allegedly got a restraining order against the perpetrator.

People in the neighbourhood are wondering if there was more they could have done to stop the tragedy from happening since the protection order was in place.

Tragically, upon arrival to the scene, emergency services confirmed that Kamogelo had passed away.

Those close to her, as well as the community as large, are grieving her loss. In response to the devastating loss of yet another young woman, many have turned to social media to vent their frustration and sadness.

The suspect was apprehended by the police after he allegedly made an attempt on his own life in the aftermath of the incident.

He is currently in arrest, according to authorities, and investigations are ongoing. He is likely to be confronted with grave accusations in connection with the deadly assault.

A number of community members and activists have since brought attention to the continuing problem of violence against women by referencing this episode.

Victims’ rights organisations have called for swifter action and stricter implementation of protection orders and threats in situations when victims report being in danger.
