Friends and family flooded social media with missing person alerts, hoping someone, somewhere had seen him. But hours later, their worst fears were confirmed.

On Saturday, 28 February, the police in Lenasia South responded to a grim discovery in an informal settlement known as 525, the body of a man with gunshot wounds.

It was later established that the victim was the same man hijacked in Chiawelo Ext 2 just hours before.

His vehicle was found not far from his body.

Gauteng police spokeswoman, Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi, said: “On 28 February, the police in Lenasia South responded to a crime scene where they found the body of a man with gunshot wounds.”

“It was later established that the victim was hijacked and kidnapped in Chiawelo Ext 2 by unknown suspects.”

She said no one has been arrested as yet and police investigations continue.

For those who knew him, Thabo was more than a headline.

He was a friend, a brother, a son, a life cut short in a senseless act of violence.

The Sekano family has appealed to members of the community and the public to help them.
