South African blogger Musa Khawula murder case in the Western Cape has been delayed because he’s facing other criminal cases in Gauteng.
The Vredenburg Magistrates Court issued a warrant of arrest late in 2025 after Khawula failed to appear.

However, prosecutors said the delay is linked to logistical challenges and his ongoing court matters in another province.
National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesman Eric Ntabazalila confirmed the situation.
“The NPA can confirm that a warrant was authorised for the accused to be arrested, but that warrant of arrest must still be executed,” he said.
He explained that there’s no clear date yet for Khawula to appear in the Western Cape.
“There’s no definite date. His Gauteng matter complicates the situation as the accused will have to be transported between Vredenburg and Gauteng the whole time,” said Ntabazalila.
He said that prosecutors want the Gauteng case finalised first.
“The senior public prosecutor of Vredenburg has suggested that his Gauteng matter be finalised first before he is sent down to respond to the charges he is facing in Vredenburg,” he said.
Khawula is facing a murder charge for allegedly stabbing his ex-boyfriend, Wandile Khambule, to death in March 2022 in Vredenburg.
It’s alleged that Khawula went to the house of Khambule’s girlfriend, where the two argued.
The girlfriend reportedly asked them to go outside to resolve their dispute.
Moments later, she heard screams and people shouting at Khawula not to stab Khambule.
Khambule allegedly tried to run away, but Khawula chased and stabbed him.
Khawula has been appearing in the Randburg Magistrates Court since 2025.
He faces charges of crimen injuria, contravention of the Cyber Crimes Act and hate speech.
He’s accused of posting derogatory statements on social media between 10 and 12 October 2024, targeting businessman Zee Nxumalo.
The blogger also faces an attempted murder case in the Free State.
In addition, he has an outstanding warrant for reckless and negligent driving.

Prosecutors said his multiple cases in different provinces are slowing down the murder trial, as authorities must coordinate court appearances and transport arrangements.
The NPA said the Western Cape murder case will continue once his Gauteng matters are completed.
