Tragedy has struck the South African Police Service following the death of Constable G. Mota, who was stationed at Phokeng Police Station, after he drowned while chasing a suspect during an operation.
According to information, Constable Mota was travelling in a police van with fellow officers when they were approached by a member of the community.

The community member informed them that they had spotted a wanted suspect linked to multiple criminal cases and offered to guide the officers to the suspect’s location.
Upon arrival, the officers spotted the suspect, who immediately fled on foot. Police gave chase, and the suspect ran towards a water dam.
Constable Mota continued pursuing the suspect, who then entered the water in an attempt to escape.
In the heat of the chase, Constable Mota followed the suspect into the dam but did not resurface. His colleagues immediately called for assistance, and divers from Potchefstroom were dispatched to the scene.
After an extensive search, the divers recovered Constable Mota’s body, confirming that he had tragically drowned.

Constable Mota had been stationed at Phokeng Police Station for less than two months, having recently relocated from the Eastern Cape. He was born in Ermelo, Mpumalanga.
