South African star Thembinkosi Lorch has said his final goodbye to Wydad Athletic Club, as he begins a new chapter with Libyan giants Al Ittihad.

Lorch was recently announced by the Libyan Premier League powerhouse club, joining them for a reported fee of $1.5 million (approximately R24 million).

Despite the announcement, the 32-year-old attacking midfielder stayed with Wydad and played two more matches before officially leaving.

Now, as he departs the Botola Pro League powerhouse, the ex-Mamelodi Sundowns attacker has bid an emotional farewell to the club and its fans.

“As I prepare to move on to the next chapter of my journey, I would like to take this moment to sincerely thank the club for the opportunity, support, and memories we have shared,” Lorch said.

“Being part of Wydad has been an honour and a privilege. I am grateful to the President, management, technical team, staff, and my teammates for the trust, guidance, and encouragement throughout my time at the club.

“The experiences, lessons, and friendships I have gained here will stay with me for the rest of my career and life,” explained the former Orlando Pirates star.

“Thank you to the supporters for your unwavering passion and belief. Your energy and loyalty made every matchday special and motivated us to always give our best.

“I leave with nothing but respect and appreciation for the club, and I wish WYDAD continued success in the seasons ahead.”

As of January 2026, Thembinkosi Lorch reportedly joined Libyan club Al-Ittihad SC on a two-and-a-half-year deal with a salary of approximately R1.2 million per month ($75,000).

This move from Wydad AC makes him one of the highest-paid South African players abroad.
