TS Galaxy head coach Adnan Beganovic has issued a frank update on the progress of Phakamani Mahlambi, who has been under assessment with the club as he looks to revive his career.

The 28-year-old has been training with the Johannesburg-based side since November last year in hopes of reviving his career.

The one-time prodigal son of South African football has been without a club since a brief stint with Chippa United in 2021.

He recently briefly trained with Durban City FC in a bid to secure a contract, but that move never materialised.

Speaking to media after Sunday’s 3-2 loss to AmaZulu FC, Beganovic provided an update on the attacking midfielder.

“He trained with us, but in the last couple of days, he had a member of his family pass away, and then he was at a funeral,” revealed Beganovic.

“It’s not on me, it’s on him. He needs to do everything he needs to fix his body to be a professional soccer player.”

The Rockets mentor is also under no illusions about the task at hand for Mahlambi, conceding that it will be ‘tough’ for the former Mamelodi Sundowns star to find his feet.

“It’s not easy to do that when you lose everything, when you crash your body.

“When you want just to come on the same level as what you had before, five, six, seven, 10 years ago, it’s not easy at all. You need to suffer a lot, and then you need to take a lot of time.

“It will be so tough and difficult for him because he lost that feeling, he lost connection with his body. It’s not like before,” he explained.
