Upon making the discovery, the resident alerted other residents, many of whom said they knew the woman. They described the killing as cruel and heartless.
Just after the discovery, Gugulethu Community Policing Forum (CPF) chairman, Deon Makiti called on the cops to act fast. He urged anyone with information to come forward.
Makiti said the community is worried about the rise in gender-based violence.
“Obviously, we at the Gugulethu CPF are concerned about this incident as we have always believed that incidents of this nature are becoming more frequent,” he said.
He called on residents to help cops.
“We therefore urge anyone with information about the details of this murder to contact the Gugulethu police station,” said Makiti.
A resident who was at the scene said the pain was unbearable.
The resident said:
“The scene was painful to watch because we know the deceased. Killing and putting her in the bin was inhumane.”
Police spokesman Sergeant Wesley Twigg said cops moved quickly after the body was found.
“An arrest was made after Gugulethu police attended to a crime scene in NY1, Gugulethu, where they found the body of a woman at the back of an abandoned building.
“The 40-year-old victim sustained multiple injuries to her body and was declared dead at the scene.
“Gugulethu detectives started with their investigation, followed up on information and interviewed several people,” he said.
Twigg said the investigation led cops straight to the ex-boyfriend (38).
“Investigation led detectives to the woman’s ex-partner. He was arrested on a charge of murder,” he said.
