Kaizer Chiefs star Sibongiseni “Ox” Mthethwa is set to have a spell on the sidelines after suffering a new injury.
The former Bafana Bafana midfielder joined Chiefs in September 2023 from Stellenbosch FC on a three-year contract which is ending in June this year.

The 31-year-old KZN-born midfielder has featured in 11 Betway Premiership League games for Amakhosi this season and he has been one of the few consistent players under coaches Cedric Kaze and Khalil Ben Youssef.
The source stated that the defensive midfielder had suffered a new injury and could only be available for selection again in March.
“You see now he has done an operation. He did it in December. You remember the time when Chiefs were not playing? He did a knee operation,” the source revealed to Soccer Laduma
“He is not even training with the team right now. It’s an old injury. And you see it has happened at the wrong time because his contract with Chiefs is coming to an end this year.”
“What is he going to do? Now it’s obvious Chiefs can only renew it with one year and if he doesn’t play they can as well not renew it. Then what will he say? He did an operation.”
The insider told this publication that the midfielder is expected to start his rehab in February.
“Then maybe return to full fitness in March. The contract is coming to an end in June, and we are going to the World Cup.”
“I have seen people saying almost every player at Chiefs is back at training except Ox. It’s because he did the operation.”
Meanwhile, another source close to the club confirmed Ox’s injury, though he was not sure about the surgery.

“He is injured. They said he will be back in February. He is injured. I don’t know about the operation though,” the insider observed.
His injury comes at a crucial time for the Glamour Boys as they have to juggle between the Betway Premiership, the CAF Confederation Cup while defending their Nedbank Cup as well.
