It’s reported the deadly accident occurred at around 2.21am.

The Quantum was carrying a shocking 27 passengers – more than the allowed number.

It’s believed that a tyre burst caused the driver to lose control of the overloaded vehicle, leading to it overturning on the road.

“Sadly, five passengers – three women and two men – were killed on the scene. The driver and 11 other passengers suffered minor injuries and were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment,” said departmental spokesman Matome Taueatsoala.

Limpopo MEC for Transport Violet Mathye expressed sadness over the tragedy.

“Our hearts go out to the families of those who lost their loved ones. We wish the injured a speedy recovery. Our thoughts are with everyone affected by this terrible accident,” said the MEC.
