Police discovered a field of dagga next to river at Buffelspruit farms outside Malelana in Nkomazi.
The Police, in collaboration with other law enforcement agencies and local farmers, received valuable information and were led to an uncovering of a field of dagga plants estimated at a street value of about R2.9 Million, next to river at Buffelspruit farms outside Malelana in Nkomazi on 09 January 2026.
According to a report, this discovery is a major one in the battle against drug trafficking.
The field consisted of mature Marijuana plants grown next to Mhlambanyatsi River, adjacent to the renowned Buffelspruit farms.
The discovery has prompted an immediate investigation, and an enquiry has been opened with a hope to locate those who are responsible.
As of now, the ones behind this large-scale cultivation has not yet been established.
Police urge anyone with information that may assist in the ongoing investigation.
Operation Safer Festive Season is continuing and in Ehlanzeni, the operation was led by the Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi.
The General was leading alongside with the Deputy Provincial Commissioner for Policing, Major General Samuel Sekgobela and the Ehlanzeni District Commissioner, Major General Dorah Xaba, other senior SAPS members, Traffic officers, law enforcement officers from Nkomazi, officials from SARS and Customs.
It was during this operation that the field with dagga plants was visited.
