Kaizer Chiefs have reportedly approached rivals Orlando Pirates for one of their first-team players.

The Amakhosi have a strong Pirates flavour at the club already.

Thabiso Monyane, Paseka Mako and Siphesihle Ndlovu have all previously donned the Buccaneers jersey.

Now, new reports suggest the Glamour Boys are working on signing yet another Pirates player.

Orlando Pirates striker Tshegofatso Mabasa’s time at the Buccaneers appears to be up.

The 29-year-old striker has been sensational for the Buccaneers. Mabasa joined the club in 2019 from Bloemfontein Celtic.

He’s currently second on the club’s all-time scorers charts with 50 goals.

Now, Kaizer Chiefs are trying to lure him to Naturena. This comes after Mabasa lost his place at the club following the arrival of Abdeslam Ouaddou.

Ouaddou prefers to use the likes of Evidence Makgopa and Yanela Mbuthuma up-front.

In fact, Mabasa hasn’t featured for the club since early October despite being fit and healthy.

With Ouaddou standing firm on his decision to sideline Mabasa, an exit looks increasingly likely in January.

Kaizer Chiefs however aren’t the only club interested in signing Mabasa.

According to KickOff, Mamelodi Sundowns are ready to challenge Kaizer Chiefs for Mabasa’s signature.

“With Moroccan giants Raja Casablanca and Kaizer Chiefs believed to have also made contact, it looks like The Brazilians are prepared to pull out all the stops to bring Mabasa to their Chloorkop base,” a KickOff report read.

It remains to be seen who’ll win the race to sign Mabasa.
