The van is from the Temba cop shop in Hammanskraal, Tshwane.

Temba station commander Brigadier Johannes Tau said: “The cause of the accident was that there was another vehicle that was following the van, and it drove behind, it hit a police car from behind, the police lost control, and the vehicle capsized. We suspect the vehicle which was behind was driving at a high speed.”

He said that three police officers from the Temba cop shop, a sergeant, and two constables were slightly injured.

“They were taken for observation at the hospital and have been discharged.”

“The vehicle was coming from Temba SAPS to Kgosi Mampuru II Correctional Centre to take the prisoners for court purposes to appear at the court,” he said.

The car was damaged on the driver’s side after it capsized.

“These accidents are not always, but sometimes very rare in a few years during my four-year tenure. It only happened two times,” Tau said.
