A 36 year old male is in a critical condition after he was bitten by a venomous Chinese Red Headed Centipede last week on Friday.

Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) responded to the call for assistance in Mhlasini – KZN at 06:22 & Paramedics were shown a bite on his right thumb.

The victim explained that he was lying on his bed when he noticed the centipede near his one (1) month old baby.

He grabbed the creature & placed it in a plastic bag with intention to throw it outdoors. The centipede bit the man through the plastic packet.

The man was transported to hospital after he became nauseous and noticed that his head was swelling.

While waiting to be treated at Osindisweni Government Hospital (OGH) the man experienced dizziness.

After a lengthy wait, he was given an injection & medication and discharged by the attending doctor.

When the man returned home, his head swelled. He visited a local doctor who requested immediate hospitalisation.

The man explained that he arrived at Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Hospital (MGMH) in Phoenix – KZN at 15:30 (Monday) in excruciating pain and was ignored by hospital staff while he was seated in a wheelchair.

He left the hospital five (5) hours later without receiving any medical attention after the nurses on duty informed him that he would receive treatment the next day.
