A two-week-old baby girl was found abandoned on the 28th of July 2025.

Residents in Extension 75 in Seshego outside Polokwane, Limpopo were shocked by the discovery of an abandoned infant on Monday, 28 July on a drain.

The matter was immediately reported to Westernberg Police Station.

The infant was found wrapped in a blue blanket and left with a bottle of milk. Some residents said the baby appeared to be in a good state but showed signs of distress.

Speaking to Daily Sun, one of the residents, Desree Sekgoloane said: “This is heavy because most women can relate that falling pregnant with no support is stressful.

“No one should talk about the termination processes as those people there are judgmental and rude despite it being their job. They will make you feel less of a person.”

“The adoption process isn’t really open to us as well. Men are unsupportive and deny pregnancies. Ultimately women are pushed to the corner.”

Another resident, Mpho Letsoalo, said education on teenage pregnancy and proper family planning is needed.

“We still need education on the issue of teenage pregnancy. Our kids also need to be taught about family planning and the danger of engaging in unprotected sex.

“Parents should be open with their kids, especially when they reach adolescence,” she said.

Cops said a 16-year-old mum has been arrested.

Capricorn district police commissioner Captain Lesiba Ramoshaba said: “We can confirm that a 16-year-old has been arrested for child abandoned.”
