Mzansi star Babes Wodumo’s trial started like it would be short but is now taking longer because of many postponements.

The trial, which started in January 2025, has been rocked by postponements because of Babes herself, her attorney and the prosecutor.

Babes was set to appear in the Durban Magistrates Court on Friday 1 August. She arrived accompanied by her sister, Nondu Simelane and an unknown young man, but the case was postponed again.

This time the case was postponed because the prosecutor, Ntokozo Ngema is on leave, which was planned earlier this year.

The case was postponed to 6 August when new dates for the trial will be set.

When the trial started in January 2025, Babes’ attorney, Thula Mlondo appeared with a bandaged thumb and asked the court to postpone the matter, which was granted.

She was also set to appear in court on 6 June, but was not present and her lawyer told the court that she was unwell, which resulted in the court postponing her case to 13 June.

Initially after Babes’ defence lawyer cross-examined the complainant, another three-days of a trial within a trial was set for 24 July, 25 July and 1 August, but on 24 July, Babes was not present in court and her attorney, Thula Mlondo told the court she was unwell.

The matter was postponed to Friday, 1 August.

Babes faces an assault charge after she allegedly assaulted Durban designer, Philile “Philly” Mhlongo of SK Designs on 12 March 2024.

The alleged incident took place at Philile’s business location at West Walk in West Street in Durban CBD. The incident was allegedly captured on camera.

But despite appearing on camera, Babes denies the incident.

She’s now accusing the complainant of tampering with the video footage.
