Motorists urged to exercise patience on roads after wet weather sparks increase in accidents.
One notable crash occurred on Tonkmeter Road in Springs, Ekurhuleni on Wednesday, 19 February. The head-on collision involved a scholar transport vehicle a Hyundai Getz.
According to acting EMPD chief Julius Mkhwanazi, the scholar transport was carrying about 10 pupils.
“The other motor vehicle, which is Hyundai Getz, was driven by a female driver with her child.
“A witness alleged that the scholar transport, which is a microbus, was overtaking because of traffic piled up on the barrier line facing oncoming traffic when it collided with the Hyundai Getz driver in a head-on collision.
“Both the school transport driver and Getz driver sustained serious injuries,” Mkhwanazi said.
Mkhwanazi said all the kids were taken to the N17 Hospital for observations and there were no fatalities.
The Ekurhuleni Metro police urge motorists to take precautions and exercise patience on wet roads to prevent further collisions.
