Former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Siyethemba Sithebe faces potential termination after a suspension stemming from a post-match altercation.
Siyethemba Sithebe’s stint at Richards Bay has taken a dramatic turn, as the club reportedly handed the former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder a termination letter.
Sithebe found himself in hot water earlier this month following a heated verbal exchange with the Richards Bay coaching staff. The incident occurred after a tough loss to SuperSport United.
Although Sithebe didn’t feature in the match, his presence in the dressing room after the game led to the altercation.
This confrontation resulted in Sithebe’s suspension, sidelining him for Richards Bay’s recent 1-0 victory over Golden Arrows.
Now, the situation appears to have escalated further, with the club reportedly moving toward parting ways with the player.
Sithebe joined Richards Bay at the start of the current season after Kaizer Chiefs released him. However, his time with the Natal Rich Boys has been underwhelming, featuring in just eight games across all competitions.
Before joining Richards Bay, Sithebe endured a challenging period with Kaizer Chiefs, where he played 39 matches over two seasons. His exit from AmaZulu, the club where he first made his mark, was also mired in controversy.
Sithebe faced a ban from AmaZulu after signing a pre-contract with Amakhosi, raising questions about his career decisions.
Despite the turbulence, Sithebe’s contributions during AmaZulu’s stellar 2020/2021 season remain a highlight. Under coach Benni McCarthy, he formed a formidable midfield partnership with Makhehleni Makhaula.
McCarthy once praised him, saying, “Sithebe’s ability to win second balls and impact the game was crucial to our success.”
Across his Premier Soccer League journey, Sithebe has made 183 appearances, scored nine goals, and registered nine assists.
Remarkably, he has maintained discipline on the field, avoiding red cards while serving only two suspensions.
Richards Bay are reportedly moving to terminate his contract, Sithebe’s future in professional soccer remains uncertain.
