UMkhonto Wesizwe (MK) party pays tribute to Canaan Mdletshe who sadly passed away in an accident on Thursday, 5 December.
MK party spokesman Sipho Tyira said Mdletshe fought for the marginalised in the country.
Mdletshe died after returning from campaigning for the party in the Mtubatuba municipal by-elections.
The party confirmed in a statement that the accident happened while Mdletshe was on his way from a by-election in Ward 16 in Mtubatuba on Thursday.
“Umkhonto wegwala ufela etsheni’ (the coward’s spear dies on a stone). However, commander Mdletshe was no coward. He picked up his spear and fought for the downtrodden and marginalised our people. Umkhonto Wesizwe party salutes his bravery, and may his soul rest in eternal peace,” said Tyira.
Mdletshe was the KZN head of communications for the MK and the party’s national elections head.
He was also part of the KZN detachment team led by Willies Mchunu.
A former journalist, Mdletshe joined the MK party in August after leaving the National Freedom Party (NFP), where he had served as secretary-general.
He left the NFP shortly after it entered the provincial government of unity in June.
Mdletshe left due to the party’s decision to govern alongside the African National Congress (ANC) and the Democratic Alliance (DA).
