Orlando Pirates have confirmed that Bongani Sam and Tshegofatso Mabasa are “in talks” with Swallows FC over potential loan deals.

The Buccaneers gave an update on several of their players, confirming that Vincent Pule, Richard Ofori, Siyabonga Mpontshane, Thabang Monare and Ben Motshwari, all signed new contract extensions.

Meanwhile, Boitumelo Radiopane returned to Cape Town Spurs on loan, and Azola Tshobeni returned to JDR Stars on loan.

The Buccaneers also announced that Sam and Mabasa, who were both sent out on loan last season, are “currently in discussions with Swallows FC to finalise move to the Dube Birds”.

For Sam, it would be a return to the nest after he already spent the second half of 2022/23 at the nest, making 10 appearances as they raced from battling relegation to finishing in eighth place and qualifying for the MTN8.

The 25-year-old joined Pirates from Bloemfontein Celtic in 2019, and made 29 appearances for the Sea Robbers.

Meanwhile, Mabasa was loaned out to Sekhukhune United in 2022/23, but only scored twice in 18 appearances for the club.

He, too, joined in 2019 from Bloemfontein Celtic after he netted five times in 15 appearances under new Swallows coach Steve Komphela in 2018/19 – with Sam featuring 14 times under Komphela that season.

Mabasa made 66 appearances for Pirates, scoring 16 times, but has seemingly not convinced Spanish coach Jose Riveiro to earn a spot in his squad.
