Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Rulani Mokwena has discussed Al Ahly forward Percy Tau and speculation linking him to his former club.

Sundowns qualified for the CAF Champions League quarterfinals after hammering Al Ahly 5-2 over the weekend.

The only talking point for the Red Devils’ point of view was that Tau scored against his former team and Mokwena was asked what he thought his performance and whether he would be the right fit at the Brazilians.

Tau has been linked with a sensational return to the Tshwane giants next season and Mokwena did not want to delve into that subject but revealed he has a close relationship with the ‘Lion of Judah’.

“I said it before the game and I say again, I really reserve comment, Percy knows what I really think,” Mokwena said in a press conference.

“After the game he waited in the tunnel, incredible human being. You must see when Percy is in South Africa, he comes to my house, he loves caps and things like that, the first thing he does he takes his cap off.

“I’m talking about a Bafana international, I’m talking about a player that has played (UEFA) Champions League, English Premier League and the first sign is respect,” he said.

The Soweto native coach stressed that he would be biased if he were to comment on Tau’s performance.

“And good football players have this thing of being good human beings but I don’t want to speak too much about Percy, one, he’s not a Sundowns player and two I’m very biased,” he went on.

“And so whatever I say will come across as a little bit on the other side so I focus a lot on my players because I’m very proud of them and very grateful for the opportunity and the blessing to be their coach,” he added.

Sundowns will have no much rest, as they resume DStv Premiership action on Tuesday against Royal AM on home soil.
