Dstv Premiership champions Mamelodi Sundowns are believed to be keen to hold onto one of the club’s superstars.
Vice-captain Themba Zwane is understood to be in talks for new and improved deal, despite his contract expiring in June 2024.
Siya sources have revealed that the new deal looks set to be two more years and if agreed to, the 33-year-old would form part of the higher earners at the Chloorkop-based club.
“The two-year contract is already on the table. And knowing the parties involved, it won’t be long before Themba (Zwane) can sign a new contract.”
“Its easy when its done early because in December this year he will be a free agent if he doesn’t sign in time. But there is nothing to worry about. All will be fine,” a source revealed to Soccer Laduma.
Contacted for comment, the player’s agent Jazzman Mahlakgane of Proffesionalz could neither confirm nor deny the possibility of new deal for the attacker.
“I am not really worried about him. He has been one of the most consistent players in the team and he has done well for himself and the team as well. He is one player at his age who has been consistent for four years in a row.”
“That’s incredible. So yeah, about the contract, we will definitely be talking. I have no doubt about that,” Mahlakgane observed.
Zwane joined the Brazilians in 2011 from then Vodacom side Vardos FC of Tembisa. In 2013 he was loaned to Mpumalanga Black Aces but since his return in 2014 he has played an influential role in the team and was part the 2016 CAF Champions League-winning side under the tutelage of Pitso Mosimane.
As previously reported by the Siya crew, Downs look set to make crucial decisions regarding the contracts of Sphelele Mkhulise, Reyaad Pieterse, Andile Jali, Surprise Ralani, Haashim Domingo, Mothobi Mvala, Thapelo Morena, Brian Onyango and Gift Motupa.
