Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates are set to battle it out in the transfer market for in-form Cape Town Spurs striker Ashley Cupido who tops the Motsepe Foundation Championship’s scoring charts.
Cupido has been grabbing the headlines in the second tier of South African football and has fired Cape Town Spurs to within a point of the top of the standings.
The 21-year-old is currently top of the scoring charts with 13 league goals after grabbing a brace over the weekend in a win over relegation-threatened Black Leopards.
KickOff has been informed that Cupido will be closely monitored in the upcoming televised Nedbank Cup clash between against Sekhukhune United on March 10.
What is known so far is that Chiefs have already made their interest known while Pirates have also taken an initiative in recent days in what is expected to be a close-fought transfer saga.
With his goals, Spurs will find it extremely difficult to hold onto the striker who has featured for Bafana Bafana in the recent CHAN qualifiers.
In moving to Gauteng, Cupido will be vastly improved from what he is earning at Spurs where he is flourishing under the tutelage of former legendary Cape Town striker Shaun Bartlett.
Cupido is the only player with double figures currently in the league in both the DStv Premiership and Motsepe Foundation Championship.
