Kaizer Chiefs head coach Arthur Zwane has provided an update on the availability of Edmilson Dove ahead of Saturday’s fixture against fierce rivals Orlando Pirates.
The Mozambican captain has in brought in a start of the season and has been an mainstay in the Amakhosi backline, featuring for every single Chiefs game since his arrival.
However, Dove missed Amakhosi’s trip to Polokwane against Arrows due to illness – a match Chiefs eventually list 3-2.
While the defender has not returned to full training with the team, Zwane did not ruled the possibility of the 28-year-old featuring in the upcoming Soweto derby against rivals Orlando Pirates.
“He’s been training, but not with the team,” Zwane replied when asked about the payer’s availability on Thursday.
“Remember he was sick. So obviously he’s been at the gym since last week just to try and make sure that should he be ready for the game [Soweto derby] then we know that he’s good and ready, mentally and physically.
“So [to answer the question], he hasn’t been part of the team so far.”
A win for Chiefs would be a fifth consecutive one in the Soweto derby while a loss could pile more pressure on Zwane, having lost three of his last five league fixtures.
Meanwhile, Pirates go into the clash with nearly a full-strength squad that includes Thembinkosi Lorch, Olisah Ndah and Miguel Timm who all missed the last edition.
The game will be played at the Stadium on Saturday. Match kick-off is at 15:30.
