Kaizer Chiefs head coach Arthur Zwane is determined to end the club’s eight-year trophy drought, as Amakhosi gear up for their Nedbank Cup last 32 clash against Maritzburg United.

The Soweto giants will take on Fadlu Davids‘ men at Harry Gwala Stadium on Friday, 10 February.

The kick-off for the eagerly-awaited sold-out affair is set to start at 19:30.

Zwane reckons that they want to use this competition as a launching pad to bring the team back to winning major trophies.

The 49-year-old mentor was speaking during the Nedbank Cup press conferences ahead of their encounter with the KwaZulu-Natal outfit.

The last time the Glamour Boys won a trophy was in 2015 when they lifted the Premiership title under the tutelage of Stuart Baxter.

‘10111’, as he is popularly known within the football circles, believes that the key to ending the trophy drought is to focus on the team’s progress rather than being distracted by other things that won’t benefit the club.

He further stated that his side is in a good position to challenge for the title if they keep their eyes on the prize.

“I would love to go all the way to the final and win it because that is very important for us as a club,” Zwane told the media.

“The players know what is at stake. We are going there with one thing in mind, to dig deep and make sure we go through. Nothing else.”

The Chiefs coach also admitted that playing Maritzburg on their own turf won’t be a walk in the park and anticipate a tough battle.

“It’s not going to be easy for the fact that the approach will be totally different; the mentality of the players and the mindset,” he added.

“However, whether it’s the cup or the league, we always want to win every game.

“We are playing a team that has been doing very well lately and we are looking forward to the game.”
