Former Orlando Pirates star Khethokwakhe Masuku led a mass exodus of players from MM Platinum, known as La Masia after the Motsepe Foundation Championship side parted with several names.
Masuku, whom joined La Masia on a free transfer last year in September, was surprisingly shown the exit door after hardly four months with the club.
The dribbling wizard made a handful of appearances, failing to make any meaningful contribution.
The Westbury-based outfit has had a poor start in their maiden season in the National First Division (NFD) as they are languishing in second place from the basement of the second-tier log standings.
Indications are that the club hierarchy is unhappy with how things have gone so far, forcing them to embark on changes in the technical team and playing personnel.
“The club is not happy with how poorly they have started the season in the Motsepe Foundation Championship,” a source told FARPost.
“It was expected that the management was going to make changes in the team with the hope of turning things around.
“Already, there have been players who left the club.
“Players like Khethokwakhe Masuku, Ayanda Rorwana, Corburn Woodington, Joshua Souls, Auden Davids and Elton Manzini have all been released from the club,” added the insider.
La Masia further made technical changes after appointing Ashwin Sutton as their new head coach, replacing Delano Hendricks.
Hendricks, who helped the team gain promotion to the NFD, has been demoted to the assistant coach position.
The Championship newbies have only won four games and drawn two while losing nine times after 15 games played.
La Masia currently occupy 15th place on the log standings with 14 points, and they are just one point away from the drop zone.
The Nazeer Baker-owned team recently lost 2-1 to All-Stars last Saturday at Bidvest Stadium.
Sutton will be aiming for a dream start to end the club’s four-match winless run and collect maximum points to move out of the drop zone when La Masia take on JDR Stars at Soshanguve Giant Stadium on Saturday, the 28th of January.
