SuperSport United are in advanced talks to sign striker Mamour Niang to strengthen coach Gavin Hunt’s side as potential title challengers.

The Tshwane outfit are understood to have assessed the Senegalese forward, who is a relative to former player and Premier Soccer League veteran Mame Niang, for several weeks now and the technical team is impressed.

SABC Sport has been led to believe that once SuperSport sorts out the 23-year-old’s documents, the deal should be as good as done.

Niang is thought to be a free agent with the last club currently the player was linked to being CNEPS Excellence in his native Senegal.

Hunt has had to heavily rely on the experienced duo of Bradley Grobler and Thamsanqa Gabuza upfront, but there are concerns these two players aren’t part of the long-term considering they are 34 and 35 respectively.

Grobler has been getting the job done, however, as he is currently the second-highest goal scorer in the DStv Premiership behind Kaizer Chiefs striker Caleb Bimenyimana, who has managed seven – one more than his SuperSport counterpart.

Niang is not known, so it will take some time to adapt to the demands and pace of the PSL, should the deal go through as expected.

SuperSport also recruited Benson Shilongo as part of the attacking line, but the Namibian is yet to feature for the club.

The club still have a foreign spot open as they’ve not exhausted their quota of five that is allowed by the PSL at any given point, so there’s room for Niang.

Hunt returned to the club after nine years and has so far led them to second on the table behind title holders Mamelodi Sundowns with 14 games played.
