AmaZulu head coach Romain Folz has suggested that there are no serious concerns over midfielder George Maluleka.

The veteran midfielder went down with what seemed a serious incident as he received treatment for around six minutes in their 0-0 draw with Sekhukhune United.

With fans, teammates, and supporters at the Peter Mokaba all concerned about his well-being, it was a surprise to see the player return back to the pitch to finish the game.

But Folz has claimed it may have been just getting used to the pace of the game after a month’s break in competitive league action for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

“I’m not a doctor, so I think the best way would be to ask the question directly to the doctor, but from what I’ve been told and what I’ve seen, he had trouble breathing,” Folz said.

“Maybe it was the pace of the game, at the moment when the pace was very high, so maybe he needed a moment to put his ideas back together.

“So I’m just happy that he was able to come back and do well – but he’s fine, he is good.”

The 33-year-old has been an ever-present figure for Usuthu since joining the club on a free transfer upon his exit from Mamelodi Sundowns, featuring in 16 of their 15 games across all competitions in the 2022/23 season thus far.
