Orlando Pirates striker Kermit Erasmus has opened up on his exit from Mamelodi Sundowns and also revealed that Kaizer Chiefs were never really interested in him.
The 32-year-old has immediately hit the ground running after his return to the Buccaneers, scoring once and setting up three more in seven appearances for his new club.
He also helped the Sea Robbers to lift this year’s MTN8 trophy, with Pirates knocking out his former side in the semi-final and Erasmus getting on their scoresheet in their 3-0 win in the second leg.
He has now opened up on his surprise Deadline Day transfer to the Buccaneers.
“I didn’t asked for the move, but they tried to put me in a move that I didn’t want to be in. I have a right to choose for myself as well, that’s what I did,” he told Thabiso Mosia on SAFM SportOn.
“They contacted me and I showed my interest and desire and who would say no to Orlando Pirates? Let’s be honest, who would say no to Orlando Pirates? You’re crazy if you say no to Orlando Pirates.”
Erasmus also admitted that his end at Masandawana was a bit disappointing but overall he had a great stint at Chloorkop.
“Unfortunately I never got any information from the coaches and that is the most disappoint part of it all. Like I said it’s football, it’s business. They have to focus on the team as a whole and not individual players,” he continued.
“I had an amazing time at Mamelodi Sundowns. It’s a great club, the family of the club are amazing people.
“The chairman that’s just now joined, the president’s son – amazing person. I still have contact with him I think I left on good terms with the club and the players also, I had a good relationship in the change room with all my teammates. It was fun.”
The 32-year-old also insisted there was no truth in rumours linking him to Chiefs, revealing there was more contact with Cope Town City.
“To be honest, you know what I’ve seen everything on social media,” he added, when asked about the Amakhosi rumours.
“There was nothing from the truth, because nobody approached me from that side. No contact was made. I can’t say anything about it.
“I spoke to John [Comitis] at the time, there was a chance for me to go back, but nothing concrete. I believe in my ability and I value what I do on the field. There’s obviously certain things that I stand on and if those criteria are not met…”
