Mamelodi Sundowns have been dealt a huge blow after head coach Rulani Mokwena confirmed that star striker Peter Shalulile has been ruled out for the rest of the year after undergoing surgery.

Shalulile has been a telling absentee in Sundowns’ last three matches with the club confirming the Namibian had suffered a muscular injury,

It has not been confirmed that the Namibian striker has gone under the knife as per medical recommendation after seeing three specialists.

“He has been attended to by specialists,” Mokwena said.

“He has undergone surgery, but it’s something that is not too much of a concern.

“Hopefully we can get him back as soon as possible, but for sure he will not be available until after the World Cup is over.

Sundowns recorded their first win in a 5-0 drubbing of Maritzburg United in a DStv Premiership clash at the Harry Gwala Stadium on Tuesday.

The Brazilians are set to remain in KwaZulu-Natal where they next face Royal AM in a league clash at Chatsworth Stadium on Saturday.

Kick-off is at 18:00.
