Still reeling from the 2-1 shocking loss to Chippa United this past weekend in the Dstv Premiership, Kaizer Chiefs have been dealt a big blow, with developments that Burundian international striker Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana is injured and will be out of action for the next four weeks.

SABC Sport has learnt that Bimenyimana, who is currently tied at the top of the league’s goal-scoring charts on six goals with the reigning PSL footballer of the season and Mamelodi Sundowns striker Peter Shalulile, is suffering from a thigh injury and will not play any further part in Amakhosi’s campaign until the domestic game returns after the 2022 FIFA World Cup at the end of December.

This comes as a huge knock to Chiefs’ ambitions of going all the way in the MTN8 tournament, where they are still in the semi-finals and have to beat AmaZulu in the second leg later this weekend in Durban to proceed to the final.

Chiefs have not won some silverware since 2015, making this their seventh year of the trophy drought.

Bimenyimana, who joined Amakhosi when the season was already underway, has brought some different dimension to their play, having scored six goals in their last four league matches, including the hat-trick of penalties against Stellenbosch FC, where the lanky striker was fouled inside the box on two occasions.

The 24year-old’s presence is going to be missed by head coach Arthur Zwane and his technical team as the other attackers have struggled to show consistency in finding the back of the net.

Amongst the games that Bimenyimana is also going to miss is the all-important, PSL’s top football fixture—the Soweto derby on 29 October at FNB stadium, which will also be the first to return with full-capacity crowds since February 2020 when Covid-19 struck.
