SuperSport United midfielder Siphesihle Ndlovu has opened up on why he decided against joining Mamelodi Sundowns back in 2019.

According to The South African, his move to Bafana Ba Style was as good as done, but the Pietermaritzburg-born star ruled it out when Orlando Pirates came knocking on Maritzburg United’s door.

However, the unfortunate part is, while he wore the Black and White colours, things didn’t transpire as he would have liked.

It was last season when he fell down the pecking order, featuring in only 14 games across all competitions which led to his departure when the current season started.

Two years ago, Ndlovu felt he wouldn’t get to play regularly at ‘Downs considering their huge squad and the quality they had in their team at the time.

WHY SPHESIHLE NDLOVU CHOSE PIRATES

“Ja, ja I think at that time when I looked at myself, the age, looked at Sundowns, you were like, ‘I [am] really gonna make it there? is it gonna be the best choice you’re making? and the age is still on your side, look at the players that they have in the PSL at the moment who were on loan whatever’, so I had to make a decision also according to that,” Ndlovu said in an interview with Marawa Sports Worldwide.

“And then I said, ‘if another team comes, we’ll look at it and go try there’.

“That is being realistic because you look at the number they had about 40 to 50 players, so you are number what there? Also, they were good players.

“So it was also about the competition, not that I was running away from it but you look at yourself, look at your age saying no you can still make it maybe abroad but there you’ve got good players who perform, give the results every week.”
