Former Al Ahly captain Magdy Abdelghany bizarrely used Napoli’s UEFA Champions League victory over Liverpool on Wednesday to aim a dig at Percy Tau.
Italian Serie A side Napoli stunned last season’s Champions League runners-up on Wednesday evening by recording a comprehensive 4-1 win over their Premier League opponents in their opening group stage match.
Following the match, ex-Ahly captain Magdy Abdelghany bizarrely used the result to criticise Al Ahly’s business dealings in recent times and in particular, the financial package offered to Bafana Bafana star Percy Tau.
“Can you imagine that there are players in the Napoli team that cut Liverpool, whose salaries are less than Percy Tau’s with Al-Ahly!!” he shared in a Tweet from his official account, as translated.
Tau’s long-term future in Egypt has been called into question following a spate of injuries suffered by the former Mamelodi Sundowns star, who is said to be sidelined for up to three months following with a new back injury.
The 28-year-old forward played a hand in 14 goals for Al Ahly last season, scoring eight times and assisting a further six, in 31 appearances across all competitions for the record African champions.
