Cameroon head coach Rigobert Song has named Cape Town City midfielder Brice Ambina in a provisional 36-man squad for their 2022 FIFA World Cup preparation friendlies.
Song, who is one of five African coaches set to lead one of the five African nations heading to Qatar later this year has named Cape Town City midfielder Brice Ambina in his squad that will be trimmed down before their fixtures against Uzbekistan and South Korea.
The 20-year-old midfielder has been a revelation since arriving at the club from Renaissance FC in February this year, a move that was only made possible due to the pandemic halting a potential transfer to Europe.
Capped at U-20 level for his home country, Ambina is now knocking on the door of the senior national team after several inspiring displays for Erc Tinkler’s side who will compete in the CAF Champions League this season.
However, he has been named among the likes of Junior Onana (FC Lens), Malong Kunde (Olympiacos), Gael Ondoua (Hannover), Olivier Ntcham (Swansea) and Martin Hongla (Hellas Verona).
It remains to be seen whether he will make the final cut but Ambina has been touted for a huge future with the Indomitable Lions and could be a few months away from potentially heading to the global spectacle.
Songs’ troops gave Uzbekiasatn on the 19 of September before the clash against South Korea eight days later.
