Orlando Pirates have reportedly entered the race to sign Percy Tau amid speculation surrounding his future at Al Ahly.

Percy Tau’s spell at Al Ahly appears to be drawing to an end with reports from Egypt this week claiming the club has decided to offload him at the end of the season, while SuperSport went so far as to claim that a parting of ways had already taken place.

The latter claim has since been dispelled by media in North Africa who suggest instead that Tau, who is still contracted to Ahly, has not terminated his deal, although the club is said to be open to his departure.

“Al-Ahly are open to the departure of Percy Tau, but there’s no thought to terminate the contract with the player, especially since the deal cost the club a lot of money to sign him from Brighton,” journalist Fathallah Zidane reported on ONTime Sports.

Zidane went on to claim that Tau’s impending departure hailed from his recent injury concerns and that a return to South Africa could be his next destination, with Orlando Pirates said to have already enquired about a potential loan deal.

“The South African team Orlando Pirates has requested the services of Percy Tau from Al Ahly on loan, with a clause in place at the end of the season that allows the club to sign him permanently if he performs well.”

“Al Ahly have settled on the move to sell Percy Tau in the coming transfer period, especially in light of the many muscle injuries that the player has suffered recently.”
