Manchester United superstar Bruno Fernandes was full of praise for Benni McCarthy, explaining he has brought positive vibes to the dressing room.

McCarthy joined Erik Ten Hag’s backroom stuff and has started to work with the United squad as part of the club’s new technical team.

Fernandes, who knows McCarthy from his days with Porto, has opened up on how he has experienced the South African so far.

“It’s been really nice. It’s a pleasure for me because as a young player I was seeing him in Portugal, playing obviously for Porto, scoring many goals. It was a joy to see him,” he told Julia Stuart on SuperSport TV.

“Obviously having him now, for many of my friends and some of my family that support Porto, it will be good for them that they can come to Manchester and see him obviously. They can get a photo with him and everything.

“He’s a really funny person, he’s always positive. He’s a good energy on the dressing room, on the training ground.

“He was quality as a player, he is quality as a manager because we do many drills, from finishing, some headers that he was really well at when he was playing.

“So he can hopefully help us to score some goals.”

Fernandes also explained that McCarthy and Mitchell van der Gaag always joke around in training.

“He’s a funny person, he’s always happy. He’s bringing a good energy, he’s always trying to help us,” he added.

“As I said before, I know him from Portugal, sometimes I do some jokes with him that he wasn’t that good playing for Porto.

“Our second coach Mitchell was in Portugal too, they know each other, they always joke around when they played against each other.

“He’s a person that brings positive vibes, good energy and hopefully can be helpful during the season.”
