Kaizer Chiefs head coach Arthur Zwane has confirmed that three members of his squad are set to miss out on the first weekend of the premiership season.
Amakhosi will open their 2022/23 premiership campaign on Saturday, 6 August at the Chatsworth Stadium in Durban where they’ll take on KZN Premier’s Cup winners Royal AM.
Speaking at a media open day held at Naturena today, Zwane heaped praise on the desire shown by his side in training and revealed that Phathutshedzo Nange, Sifiso Hlanti and Sibusiso Mabiliso are set to miss the first game of the season.
“I’ve got a positive headache, if I may put it that way, because I’ll be selecting from players that are willing, and are showing a lot of commitment and eagerness to go out there and give their best.
[We have a full squad] except for a few injuries and one suspension,” Zwane said.
“Nange will not be available for the game, Hlanti who’s still not at one hundred per cent as you know he’s coming back from a long lay off and Mabiliso who’s got a thigh problem. I think those are the only players who will not be available” Zwane told media.
Nange received a red card during Chiefs’ last game of the 21/22 season against Swallows and the suspension carries over to the new season.
Sifiso Hlanti suffered an Achilles tendon rupture injury during training in November, while Mabiliso has a slight thigh issue that will keep him out of the fixture.
Meanwhile, new signings George Matlou, Kamohelo Mahlatsi, Dillon Solomons, Yusuf Maart, Ashley du Preez, Siyethemba Sithebe and Zitha Kwinika are all in line to make their debuts for Amakhosi.
