Veteran midfielder Oupa ‘Ace’ Manyisa looks set to call time on his decorated playing career to pursue a non-playing role ahead of the new season.
Authoritative sources have confirmed to this website that Manyisa will be moved into a brand ambassador position at Motsepe Foundation club Platinum City Rovers.
Manyisa spent the past season with Rovers following the end of his 13-year stay in the PSL which earned him legendary status at Orlando Pirates.
He then moved on to play for Mamelodi Sundowns and Chippa United.
Now aged 34, Rovers have decided to retain him at the club due to his influence and discipline has been a model professional since arriving at the club.
Last season he featured in 21 games for Rovers despite rarely playing from start to finish like he used to do during his better years at Pirates.
“There are no issues with Oupa’s abilities as a footballer, but the club wants to put him in a position that gives direction to his future.
“He has a profile befitting of becoming a club ambassador because of the way he carries himself around.
“He has obviously slowed down a bit considering the injuries that he had to deal with through his time at Sundowns and it will be better that he is moved aside slowly.
“A meeting will be held to address that issue next week but he will be handed that position,” says the authority.
Meanwhile, Rovers have already brought in veteran forward Lerato Lamola.
Lamola (36) – a battle-hardened forward – was with Marumo Gallants last season.
Also joining are John Tshabalala (University of Pretoria) and Nation Ndlovu (formerly with TS Galaxy).
