Former Mamelodi Sundowns and Witbank Spurs attacker was a notable absentee as Al Ahly announced their first squad after Pitso Mosimane’s exit.
Pitso Mosimane and Ahly parted ways on Monday, with the South African coach and his technical team ending a 20 month spell.
Al Ahly announced their squad to play this evening on Tuesday and Tau was not included.
It is unclear however if the Bafana international was available. Tau was part of the Bafana team who lost to Morocco on Thursday, and had left the pitch with a niggle towards the end of the game.
Tau’s future at the Egyptian giants is now in question after Mosimane’s exit. He had joined Ahly from English Premiership outfit Brighton & Hove Albion, with Mosimane’s presence at the club a deciding factor.
Tau has featured in 15 league games this season, scoring five times.
