Orlando Pirates have made their first big name signing ahead of next season with AmaZulu boss Sandile Zungu confirming the move.

AmaZulu president Sandile Zungu confirmed that the Buccaneers have reached an agreement with the club for their star defender.

In what will take place as a swap deal, Tapelo Xoki will be heading to Johannesburg while Orlando Pirates star Gabadinho Mhango heads the other way.

Mhango enjoyed a stellar 2020/21 campaign for Orlando Pirates however things took a turn for the worst a season later.

Off-field drama meant the Malawian attacker made just TWO starts for Orlando Pirates this season while making eight cameo appearances off the bench.

Xoki in the other hand has been rock-solid for the KwaZulu-Natal based side this season in defence. Usuthu have kept 16 cleansheets this season. (14 when Xoki was on the field of play.)

“Doctor Irvin Khoza did contact me personally about Tapelo Xoki, and we’ve spoken.” Sandile Zungu told UkhoziFM.

“I respect him for the way he handled it so that Xoki will leave us, he played his last game yesterday and Gabadinho Mhango is joining us from Orlando Pirates.

“I can also confirm that Brandon Truter has been given a permanent contract as first-team coach at AmaZulu FC.

“He has impressed us since taking over following the departure of Benni McCarthy in March,”

“We had a meeting recently and both parties agreed by mutual consent to part ways.” the Orlando Pirates striker said last month as quoted by Citizen.

“It is a huge relief to me because I was hardly enjoying game time.

“It has been a stressful season for me and I can’t wait to move on and hopefully this will be a new dawn for my career.

“I have been training hard. I have been outstanding during training, but surprisingly, the Orlando Pirates coaches have been ignoring me.

“And there is nothing I can do about it. It could be something personal, I really don’t know what was happening.”
