Mamelodi Sundowns and an unknown European team have joined the race for a Kaizer Chiefs target, the Siya crew can reveal.
Soccer Laduma first reported on Chiefs’ interest in 19-year-old sensation, Rushwin Dortley in April following his impressive campaign in the GladAfrica Championship with Cape Town Spurs.
The Siya crew subsequently reported that the player’s move to Naturena had been put on hold with his agency considering a move abroad for the talented centre-back who can also play at left full-back.
Now, reliable sources have informed the crew that an unnamed European team have expressed an interest in Dortley, but they are not the only club keen on his services!
Reigning DStv Premiership champions Mamelodi Sundowns are believed to have also thrown their name into the hat to land Dortley, with co-coach Manqoba Mngqithi recently reiterating the club’s desire to sign a left-footed centre back.
Sundowns have Mosa Lebusa who fills that role; however, in the case that the former Ajax Cape Town man is injured, the Brazilians are often forced to play with a makeshift central defensive pairing, with no natural replacement on the left side of defence.
Dortley does have a long-term contract with Spurs, who have stated in the past that they were willing to listen to offers for their player.
Indications are that it has now become a three-horse race for the player’s signature, though it remains to be seen whether Chiefs or Sundowns manage secure the player’s signature, or whether his immediate future lies in Europe.
