A Mother is struggling to cope after her 11-month-old baby was shot and killed.

The incident happened in the Jeffsville informal settlement, Atteridgeville, in Tshwane, in June 2024.

The tragic shooting occurred when thugs opened fire on a family sitting outside around a fire to keep warm.

Salia Mashedi (31) recounted the horrific moment when her daughter was shot while sleeping in her arms.

The baby was tragically shot in the head and leg, dying immediately at the scene.

Salia herself was struck by eight bullets, hitting various parts of her body, including her arms and stomach.

Another relative was shot in the right hand during the attack.

“This is still painful, and I’m heartbroken. I want those thugs to be sentenced to 100 years.”

Despite recovering physically, Salia is haunted by the painful death of her daughter and is determined never to forgive the attackers.

She expressed a strong desire for justice.

“I will never forgive those thugs. I want to see them rot in jail.”

Her boyfriend, Sibonelo Ntuli (29), shared his heartbreak and called for answers from the perpetrators, questioning why they killed his daughter and harmed his loved ones.

Gauteng police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Mavela Masondo said: “A case of murder and attempted murder has been opened at Atteridgeville Police Station, and one suspect was arrested.”
